Expert Answer
Certain hereditary disorders are caused due to recessive genes present on the “X” chromosome. They are called X-linked diseases. Such disorders are common in males than in females. This is because males have only one X chromosome. If the defective gene is present on the X chromosome, it will definitely get expressed in males. However, females have a double dose of X chromosomes. Hence, the effect of any defective gene is masked or suppressed by the other X chromosome.
Diseases caused due to X-linked inheritance: Haemophilia, Colour blindness.
