Caesar is criticized by the conspirators for being too ambitious and the fact that he may endanger Rome. Caesar is indeed ambitious and does want absolute control over Rome. He also arrogantly believes that he would live forever in the minds of men. So much is his faith in his powers that he disregards his wife Calpurnia’s fears about his death. She tries to dissuade him from going to the Senate, but Caesar does not heed her words. Since he is unable to resist the allure of being crowned, he ends up risking his life. Caesar mistakes that the immortal status that is granted to his public self would ensure any kind of protection from mortality. But true to Caesar’s beliefs, he does become immortal in a different sense. Even from beyond the grave, Caesar’s aura permeates. Brutus names him as the cause of his and Cassius’ failures. He also inspires Octavius and Antony by boosting their morale. Ultimately, Octavius is crowned as the emperor thus giving validity of Caesar’s belief that he would be immortal.
