begin mathsize 14px style Refractive space index space of space straight a space medium equals fraction numerator Speed space of space light space in space vacuum over denominator Speed space of space light space the space given space medium end fraction end style
Intensity of scattered light is proportional to the fourth power of the wavelength of the incident light, provided the diameter of the scattering particle are smaller than the wavelength of the incident light.
i.e. begin mathsize 14px style straight I space equals 1 over straight lambda to the power of 4 end style
The scattered intensity is maximum for shorter wavelengths.
