What is the relation between illuminated atoms & lasers?

Answer:
Laser is monochromatic intense light source and its intensity is concentrated in narrow beam(typically order of mm).
Hence when it is irradiated on substance it absorbs appreciable amount of energy in small area. It may be possible to exite the atoms by laser radiation.
Research work is going to use laser for isotope separation using this principle
