Valency denotes the combining capacity of the atom of an element
It is equal to the number of electrons an atom can donate or acceptor or share.
On moving from left to right in a period, the number of valence electrons increases from 1 to 8.
Valency depends on the number of electrons in the outermost shell (i.e. valence shell).
