In a greenhouse, plants which need protection from cold weather are grown. This building is constructed of glass which traps the incoming rays of the Sun in the house and does not allow them to escape out. This increases the temperature of the building.

Similarly, the greenhouse effect is experienced on the Earth when gases like carbon dioxide trap some part of the Sun’s heat coming to the surface of the Earth and prevent them from escaping back into space. This increases the temperature of the Earth. This is known as the greenhouse effect.
