Expert Answer
Corpus luteum is the yellow mass of the tissues left behind after the ovulation. It is an endocrine tissue which secretes two hormones.
1. Oestrogen: It is secreted by follicle before ovulation. Oestrogen triggers the thickening of the endometrial lining of the uterus necessary for the implantation of embryo.
2. Progesterone: It prepares uterus for receiving the embryo. At the same time in case of fertilization prevents the maturation of another follicle.
