As shown in figure , Normal reaction force is resolved into two components.

One component Ncosθ parallel to gravitational force mg and other component Nsinθ in horizontal direction.

Similarly frictional force is resolved into two components, one in vertical direction i.e., fsinθ and other one fcosθ in horizontal direction

we have in vertical direction  N cosθ = f sinθ + mg   or  N cosθ  = μN sinθ + mg  or  N = mg/(cosθ - μ sinθ) ................(1)

in horizontal direction,  N sinθ + f cosθ = mv2/r  or  N sinθ + μN cosθ = mv2/r  ....................(2)

where r is the radius of curvature of bending road

By substituting N from eqn.(1) in eqn.(2) and after simplification we get, tanθ = begin mathsize 12px style fraction numerator v squared minus mu space r space g over denominator r space g space plus mu space v squared end fraction end style
if design has to be made for minimum friction μ=0 and maximum velocity, then tanθ = ( v2 / rg )

θ is angle of banking
