ICSE Class 7 Answered
what is the condition for a force to do work on a body

Expert Answer
workdone = Force×displacement
In the above formula displacement indicates force acting on the body when it is displaced to a distance.
If initially the body is at rest and moving due to the action of force, displacement is measured along the direction of displacement.
If the body is already in state of motion, due to applied force, its speed will change during the displacement of body.
work is not done by the force, if direction of force and direction of motion of the body are perpendicular to each other.
(Angle between the direction of force and direction of motion of the body is 90° )
Work will be done on the body, either the body is initially at rest or if it is not moving in a direction perpendicular to the direction of force
