Expert Answer
When an object is placed in front of source of light, it produces a shade behind the object. This is termed as shadow. An opaque object forms sark shadow behind the object. The translucent object allows light to partially pass through them hence they cast weak shadows. While transperent objects allows all the light to pass through them. Thus, they do not casts shadows.
Shadows helps us in understanding the relative position and size of object. Without shadows it was not possible to determine the position of an object in the space.
Artificial lights are also some kind of source of light. So, the objects can cast their shadows in artificial lights.
