Expert Answer
Revivalism was an ideological device used by the Assertive Nationalists in order to instill self respect in the minds of Indians about their own rich cultural and political heritage. The Assertive Nationalists sought to mobilise people’s religious sentiments in order to mobilise them into political action. Lokmanya Tilak revived the Shivaji festival in 1895. Historical figures like Chandragupta Vikramaditya, Rana Pratap and Shivaji were often used to rouse nationalist sentiments and encourage participation in the national movement.
