Dear Ananya,

Litmus is a natural pH indicator. It has purple colour in distilled water. But when added to acidic solution, it turns red while on addition of basic solution, it turns blue. Litmus is available in the form of solution or strips of paper known as litmus paper. These strips of papers soaked in blue and red litmus solution are called blue and red litmus papers respectively.
