Asteroids can be defined as minor planets that revolve around the Sun generally between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter. This is known as the asteroid belt. Basically it is combined effect of gravitational forces of planets especially mars and jupiter which make them move in perfect orbit.

More than 5000 asteroids have been identified so far.

The sizes of asteroids vary. While some are spherical, others are elongated and irregular in shape. All the asteroids rotate on their axis every 5 to 20 hours.

Asteroids may also be found in the orbits of other planets. Chiron, classified as an asteroid was found between the orbits of Saturn and Uranus.
