What is +I and -I effect?

+ I effect is shown by alkyl group bigger the group greater the +I effect. electrons are pushed towards the carbon atom increasing the electron density on the carbon atom. In -I effect electrons are moved away fron the carbon atom decreasing the electron density on the carbon atom, pulling of electrons away is seen in groups like NO2- Cl-
