Esterification: Acetic acid on treatment with alcohol in the presence of concentrated sulphuric acid forms ester and the reaction is known as esterification. Saponification: A reaction in which an ester is heated with an alkali, such as sodium hydroxide, producing a free alcohol and an salt is called saponification.
