When an object is thrown vertically, the minimum speed required for the object to reach infinity
(i.e. escape from earth's gravitational field) is known as escape speed, sometimes loosely called as escape velocity.
 
Escape speed is begin mathsize 12px style square root of 2 cross times g cross times R subscript E end root end style , where g is acceleration due to gravity and RE  is radius of earth.
when we substitute the values of g and RE, we get 11.2 km/s as escape speed
