Expert Answer
- A charge with a magnitude so small that placing it at a point has a negligible affect on the field around the point is called test charge.
- When such a charge is placed in the electric field due to another charge, it experiences a force.
- For this positive test charge to move against this force of repulsion, work has to be done.
- This work done in moving a unit positive charge from infinity to that point is called electric potential
For example
- If one joule of work is done to move one coulomb of positive charge from infinity to that point, then electric potential of one volt is said to be existant at that point.
