Dear student,
The notochord is a stiff rod of cartilage supporting the nerve cord and present only in the embryos of vertebrates.
The nerve cord is a single hollow tract of nervous tissue that constitutes the central nervous system of chordates and develops into the spinal cord and brain in vertebrates.
