Dear s_patne2002@yahoo.com

Thanks for asking us a question in Ask the Expert section of TopperLearning.com.

In case of multiple questions within a query, please post each question individually and let us know where you are getting stuck so that we would be able to explain things better.

Solution for your first query,

Common ion effect:
It is an example of chemical equilibrium.
It is a decrease in solubility of an ionic salt that is one that dissociates in solution into ions, caused by the presence in solution of another solute that contains one of the same ions as the salt.
For example:
Silver chloride is slightly soluble salt which dissociates in solution as Ag+ and Cl- ions.
AgCl ↔ Ag+ + Cl-
If NaCl is added containing Cl- ions as common ion, the solubility equlibrium of the solution will be shifted to remove more Cl- ions from the solution so that at the equilibrium point there will be fewer Ag+ ions in solution and more AgCl precipitate out as a solid.
