what is cambium?

Cambium is a layer of plant cells that usually separates the xylem and the phloem. It is a zone of dividing cells that produce xylem in the inner portions of the plant and phloem in the outer portions of the plant. Cambium is located just beneath the bark of the plant. It is made up of actively dividing meristemic cells.
