Expert Answer
When there is heavy or excessive rain, it leads to floods.
Floods can cause damage to both life and property.
- Fields and crops get washed off. Food becomes scarce as the rivers, lakes and ponds overflow due to excessive rainfall.
- People residing on the banks of the river in villages and cities suffer great loss as their property gets washed away.
- Heavy rains also kill animals living in the soil as these animals do not get sufficient air to breathe.
- The fertility of land decreases due to its washing off, creating a scarcity of grains and vegetables.
- Floods obstruct transportation because of the damage of roads and bridges.
- Water gets polluted because of mud and dirt. This results in the spread of epidemics.
