The axis of the Earth is inclined at an angle of 66 ½ 0 to the plane of elliptic. When the Earth revolves around the Sun, the North Pole remains inclined towards the Sun for about six months of the year, while the South Pole is tilted away from the Sun. Thus it is Summer season in the North Pole and Winter season at the South Pole. After six months, the situation is reversed. Since now the South Pole is tilted toward the Sun and the North Pole is away from the Sun, it is Summer at the South Pole and Winter at the North Pole.

Therefore, the tilted axis of the Earth leads to changing seasons which affects the amount of heat or cold experienced in an area.
