HI Kanhaiya,

Sustainable agriculture is the production of food, fibre, or other plant or animal products using farming techniques that protect the environment, public health, human communities, and animal welfare.

  • The primary benefits of sustainable agriculture are:
  • Environmental Preservation
  • Protection of Public Health
  • Economically viable
  • Upholding Animal Welfare

Some of the most common sustainable agriculture techniques employed by farmers today to achieve the key goals of weed control, pest control, disease control, erosion control and high soil quality are:

  • Crop Rotation
  • Cover Crops
  • Improved soil and water management
  • Conservation agriculture
  • Eco agriculture
  • Organic agriculture
  • Soil Enrichment
  • Natural Pest Predators
  • Biointensive Integrated Pest Management

All the above are examples of approaches to agricultural production that improve sustainability in variety of ways. They reduce the stress on the natural biogeochemical cycles and in turn help in maintaining sustainability.
