Mughals tried to conquer the land of the Ahoms as they had built a large state by annexing the kingdoms of the Chhutiyas, Koch-Hajo and by subjugating other tribes. They were also good in making high quality gun powder and cannons. The annexation of such a kingdom was a matter of prestige for the Mughal Empire. Further, it was important to subdue a state which could pose a threat to the mighty Mughal Empire in the future.
