In spring balance or digitatal type weighing machine, what actuall measured is the gravitational force acting on mass.
Since gravitational force is linearly prportional to mass, weighing machines are calibrated to read mass.

In physical balance or balance that has two pans, gravitational force acting on the measuring object is compared to
the gravitational force acting on the standard mass. So we get the value of mass to be measured from
standard mass placed on other pan.

Hence when weighing machine is used to measure mass, we have to take the calibrated value of mass.
If physical balance or balance with two pans is uded to measure the mass, we need to take the standard value
