Transpiration is the evaporative loss of water from the aerial parts (leaves and stem) of the plant. Types of transpiration are:

1. Stomatal transpiration

2. Lenticular transpiration

3. Cuticular transpiration

Out of these three types of transpiration, stomatal transpiration can be controlled by the plant because the stomata are covered by two bean-shaped guard cells.

The closing and opening of stomata is controlled by the turgidity of guard cells which in turn depends on the physiological process photosynthesis and the absorption of water by roots.
