  • The whole process of elections in India are conducted, controlled and supervised by the Election Commission. It is an independent autonomous body that is provided in the Constitution to ensure that it remains above any external influence.
  • The elections process consists of announcements of dates of elections, filing of the nomination papers, scrutiny of the applications, withdrawal of candidate, publication of final list, distribution of election symbols, campaigning, and casting of votes and announcement of the results.
  • Various political parties and independent candidates who participate in the elections come out with their manifestos for the elections. This is a verbal declaration where the party or the person clearly states their views and attitudes on economic, defence, foreign policy and on other problems too.
  • Then, election campaign conducts meetings and processions, speeches, individual contact of the voters, advertisements and propaganda through media.
  • On the fixed date, the elections are conducted by the Election Commission with the help of the Electronic Voting Machines.
  • After the completion of the elections, the votes are counted and the results are declared. The candidate with maximum number of votes is declared a winner.
