Powers of the Prime Minister as the Chairperson of the Cabinet:
- To allocate portfolios: The Prime Minister has the power to allocate portfolios to specific ministers as he may seem fit.
- To select or dismiss ministers: The Prime Minister can choose a minister or can also dismiss him. He can also ask a minister to resign from his post if he has erred.
- To direct and coordinate policy: The Prime Minister manages the working of the various departments and looks after the smooth functioning of the administration. He also makes policies regarding critical matters such as foreign, defence, economic and technological affairs.
