The longitudinal extent of India is large. Following are its implecations:

• The longitudinal extent affects the local time for different states in our country.
• From Gujarat to Arunachala Pradesh, there is a time lag of 2 hours.
• The local time of a place depends on the longitude which passes through it.

Latitudinal Extent- Significance

• The Tropic of Cancer divides India into almost two equal halves.
• While the northern part lies in the temperate zone, the southern part is closer to the Equator and lies in the tropical zone.
