Expert Answer
The reporting verb is used while writing in the reported (indirect) speech.
Example: Kiran said, "I wish you could stay a little longer." (direct speech)
Kiran said that she wished I could stay a little longer.
"I will order lunch for you," Mohsin said to Sheena.
Mohsin offered to buy lunch for Sheena.
Told, offered, promised, etc. are some examples of reporting verbs.
