An equation gives a straight line when plotted on a graph is called as a Linear Equation.

In Linear equations the exponent/power on the variable is alway 1.

1. Linear Equation in one variable:

An equation of the form ax + b = 0, where a, b are real numbers and x is a varible is called a Linear Equation in one variable.

Examples: 2x + 3 = 0,  y = 1,  4y - 8 = 0 etc

               2. Linear Equation in two variables:

An equation of the form ax + by + c = 0, where a, b and c are real numbers, x and y are the variables is called a Linear Equation in two variable.

Examples: 2x + 3y + 1 = 0,  y + z = 1 etc
