If the line containing any side of the quadrilateral has the remaining vertices on the same side of it, then the quadrilateral is called a convex quadrilateral. In a convex quadrilateral the measure of each angle is less than 1800 whereas for a concave quadrilateral atleast one angle is more than 180.
It can be understood in other way as well.
A convex quadrilateral has both diagonals completely contained within the figure, while a concave one has at least one diagonal that lies partly or entirely outside of the figure.
