Expert Answer
Chromatophores are pigment-containing and light-reflecting cells found in bacteria and a wide range of animals including amphibians, fish, reptiles, crustaceans and cephalopods. These cells expand and contract to exhibit different pigments, which allows the animal to change the colour of its body to resemble its environment for defense, hunting, signaling, temperature regulation, protection from radiation and mating purposes.
