Helen Keller was deaf and blind, but she learnt how to overcome her disabilities with the help of her teacher Anne Sullivan. Miss Keller mastered the technique of lip reading by placing her fingers on the speaker’s lips and cheeks which helped her understand what was being spoken. She simultaneously felt the vibrations of words by placing her thumb on the speaker’s larynx. Although she was thrown into a world full of silence and darkness, Miss Keller found a way to understand the world around her and learnt to face her problems bravely.
