CBSE Class 9 Answered
water pollution leads to soil pollution justify this statement
Water with detergents used to wash utensils or clean garments mixed in it flows down the drains. Metal cans, garbage, glass bottles and plastic bags are often dumped into the water bodies. Nitrates, phosphates and other chemicals used in pest control and weed control are washed out into the rivers, lakes and ultimately the oceans.
There are chances that the contaminated water may seep into the soil. The heavy metals are toxic and cause death of soil flora and fauna. The chemicals enter the food chain through planktons. At each level in the food chain, lethal levels of these poisons increase. Chemicals used in pesticides remain accumulated in the environment for a long period. These chemicals enter the bodies of organisms at different levels through food chain and affect them.
Thus, water pollution can have undesirable effects on the soil environment and cause soil pollution.
