Expert Answer
Volume strength (or volume percent) is an outdated term referring to the volume of oxygen gas liberated from one volume of H2O2 solution (at 0oC and 1 atm.).
For example: If the volume strength is given as 20-volumes, it means that 1cm3 of H2O2 will produce 20cm3 of oxygen gas.
2 H2O2 -----> 2 H2O + O2
2 moles of H2O2 -------> 22.4 L oxygen at STP .
Now
It is given that Normality of H2O2 = 1.5 N
Moilarity of H2O2 = 0.75 M ( n-factor for H2O2 = 2 and N= nM)
So, in 1 L H2O2 solution , there are 0.75 moles of H2O2
2 moles of H2O2 give 22.4 L O2 at STP
So, 0.75 moles (1 L of the given H2O2 soln) will give (22.4*0.75 / 2 ) L of Oxygen
Volume strength = 0.75*22.4 / 2 = 0.75*11.2 = 8.4 L
