two villages have population 220 and 550 respectively. These two villages together are to share a donation of Rs.1260000 in the ratio of their populations. Calculate the share of each.

Expert Answer
The ratio of the polpulation of the two villages is 220: 550 = 2: 5
→ The share of the two villages in the donation will be 2x and 5x.
2x + 5x = 1260000
→ 7x = 1260000
→ x = 180000
Therefore share of each village in the donation is 2x = 2(180000) = Rs. 3,60,000 and 5x = 5(180000) = Rs. 9,00,000
