Two blocks are in contact on a horizontal table. A horizontal force applied to one of the block. If m1=2 kg, m2= 1kg , and F =3 N . Find the force of contact between 2 blocks

Figure shows the forces acting on 2kg and 1 kg block that are in contact. Applied force is F = 3 N .
At contact surface, we are getting action-reaction pair of contact forces FC . Let the system moves with acceleration a.
Free body diagrams are shown for 2 kg block and 1 kg block.
If we apply Newton's second law to 2 kg block , we get , F - FC = 3 - FC = 2a ...................(1)
If we apply Newton's second law to 1 kg block , we get , FC = a ...................(2)
By adding eqn.(1) and (2) , we get , (2a+a) = 3a = 3 or a = 1 m/s2
Hence from eqn.(1) , we get , Contact force FC = 1 N
