Let u be the initial velocity and a be the acceleration then,

D3= 4 = u + [a ( 2x3 - 1)] / 2.................(i)

and,

D5= 12 = u + [a ( 2x5 - 1)] / 2.....................(ii)

Subtracting eqn (i) from (ii) gives the value of 'a' and after replacing the found value of 'a' in either of the above eqns; u can be found out.

Then , the value of u and a has to be substituted in the eqn written below, to find how far the particle will travel in nxt 3 s i.e.distance covered in 8th sec.

D8= u + [a ( 2x8 - 1)] / 2
