Let the number be x.
Thrice a number decreased by 5 exceeds twice the number by 1.
Thrice of a number = 3x
Thrice a number decreased by 5 is 3x - 5
Thrice a number decreased by 5 exceeds twice the number by 1 is
3x - 5 = 2x + 1
x = 6
Hence, the number is 6.
