the water drop falls at regular intervals from a tap 9m above the ground. the fourth drop is leaving the tap at the instant the first drop touches the ground. how high is that third drop at that instant?

Time taken by the first drop to reach ground = 
where S is the height of tap above ground. In this 1.36 s duration, 4 drops were falling.
hence time interval for each drop to fall ( 1.36 / 3 ) = 0.45 s
Hence third drop has travelled only 0.45 s, when the first drop reached ground.
Hence the distance travelled by third drop = (1/2)×g×t2 = (1/2)×9.8×0.45×0.45 = 0.992 m ≈ 1 m
Hence the third drop is at a height of 8 m above ground.
