CBSE Class 11-science Answered

The volume of an ideal gas is V at pressure P. On increasing the pressure by increment P, the change in volume of the gas is increment V subscript 1 under isothermal conditions & increment V subscript 2 under adiabatic conditions. Which one is greater increment V subscript 1 space end subscript space o r space increment V subscript 2? Explain with reason. If we open the door of a refrigerator in a closed room, the room does not get cooled. Why?

The refrigerator is a heat pump. It takes in the air and cools it by removing heat from it. This heat goes out in the surroundings from the back of the refrigerator. So, we are adding heat to the room thereby heating it.
Now, if we keep the door of the refrigerator open for a while, then more heat has to be removed from inside the fridge in order to cool the stuff inside. This will throw more heat out in the room thereby heating the room instead of cooling it.
