The temperature-time graph given below shows the heating curve for pure wax. From the graph answer the following.
(a) What is the physical state of the substance at the points A, B, C and D?
(b) What is the melting point of the substance?
(c) What is its boiling point?
(d) Which portions of the graph indicate that change of state is taking place?
(e) Name the terms used for heat absorbed during change of states involved in above processes.

(a) At point A: The substance is in the solid state.
At point B: The substance has started melting. It exists both in the solid and liquid states.
At point C: The substance is in the liquid state.
At point D: The substance has started boiling. It exists both into the liquid and gaseous states.
(b) The melting point of he substance is 15oC
(c) The boiling point of the substance is 110oC
(d) The A1 to B1 and D1 to D2.
(e) From A1 to B1 - latent heat of fusion. D1 to D2 - Latent heat of vaporisation.
