Mizoram Class 9 Answered

The sum of two numbers is 129 and their difference is 45. Find the numbers.

Let x and y be the two numbers.
 
According to the conditions,
 
x + y = 129 ... (1)
x - y  = 45   ... (2)
 
Adding (1) and (2), we get
 
2x = 174
→ x = 87 
y =129 - 87  = 42   ...from (1)
Therefore, the two numbers are 87 and 42.
