Let us assume both nichrome wire and copper wire are of same length.

Resistivity of nichrome = 1.1×10-6 Ωm  , Resistivity of copper = 1.72×10-8 Ωm

hence resistance value of nichrome wire is greater than resistance value of copper.

since both the wire is connected in series, same current will pass through it.

Power dissipation is i2R , where i is the current and R is the resistance.

Since power dissipation is proportional to resistance, nichrome wire temperature increases much more than copper wire.

The law that explains the above effect is ohms law and the basic equation of electrical power

 Power = current×voltage = current×current×resistance
