The power of the wre having potential difference 200 V across its end is 100 W.If the wire is cut into two equal parts,then what will be the energy per sec consumed by the wire.

Expert Answer
The initial power of the wire is 100 W.
Now, when the wire is cut into two equal parts, its resistance as well as voltage drop both are equal and reduced to half the original values.
That is R1 = R2 = R/2
V1 = V2 = V/2
So, we get P1 = P2 = P/2
Hence, if we calculate the combined power, it will be P = P1 + P2 = 100 W
Hence, the energy consumed per second is E = P/t = 100/1 = 100 J
