The perimeter of a rectangle is 24m and the area is 27square m find it's length and breadth

Let x and y be the length and breadth of a rectangle.
2(x + y) = 24
x + y = 12 ....(i)
xy = 27...(ii)
Solving (i) and (ii) simultaneously
we get
x(12 - x) = 27
x2 - 12x + 27 = 0
(x - 9)(x - 3) = 0
x = 9 or 3 then y = 3 or 9
 
Hence, the length and breadth of a rectangle are 9 m and 3 m respectively.
