When slit separation is comparable to wavelength, we get maxima when
 
d sinθ = n λ
 
where n is integer and it is order of interference
 
hence n = ( d sinθ ) / λ
 
maximum order , nmax = d / λ  = ( 2λ ) / λ = 2
