- Law of inertia states that the body in the state of rest or in the state of motion will continue to retain that state, untill and unless an external force is applied to it.
- Incase of bicycle, there are various factors determining the state of rest or state of motion.
- To bring the bicycle in motion, we need to apply the force that is good enough to accelerate the mass of the cycle rider and the mass of the bicycle itself.
- Plus, the force should also be strong enough to overcome the friction provided by the surface on which the cycle is being moved.
- This force should be continuosly provided to maintain the motion of the bicycle.
- The scenario of a continuous motion of a body without applying any additional force is only applicable in the ideal case where there are no reducing factors like mass, friction, slope of the surface etc.
