Horizontal range R of projectile begin mathsize 12px style equals space fraction numerator u squared space sin 2 alpha over denominator g end fraction end style ....................(1)
where u is projection velocity and α is the angle of projection made with horizontal.
 
velcoity u acquired by a freely falling body from height h is given by,  begin mathsize 12px style u space equals space square root of 2 cross times g cross times h end root end style .....(2) 
Range is maximum when α = 45º
 
hence from(1) and (2), maximum range Rmax = 2×h
